I recently overheard some mothers talking about how they had spaced their children. There was the admission that they wanted them close together so that they would be playmates and close companions. However, they are siblings and like all children they will fight and play. Two of the women had come to this conclusion and had wished they could go back in time and space their second child out further.

I can still taste the liquid cod liver oil that I had to take throughout my childhood. Ugh! I remember it was given to me in a shot glass with a dash of orange juice to help it go down and was always followed by a terrible fishy aftertaste.

Just the horror of these words makes any woman cringe and wonder why anyone would want to breastfeed. However, breastfeeding does not mean that you will or have to suffer with sore nipples. Yes, I can remember the initial tenderness and this is to be expected. Tenderness is normal and felt for a couple of weeks or less while your nipples adjust to the baby’s suckling and then nursing becomes more pleasurable.

This has become a frequent question asked by friends and family since announcing we are going to be grandparents this fall. According to the ultrasound we are expecting a “granddaughter” and we are just as excited as if this baby were to be a “grandson”.
